Royston: 25th World Scout Jamboree

Royston: 25th World Scout Jamboree

The 25th World Scout Jamboree 2023 will take place in SaeManGeum, Korea. On this occasion a remarkable number of Scouts have been selected to join the UK Contingent from Royston District Scouts, aged between 14 and 17, along with three Young Leaders aged 18 and 19 who will form part of the operations support team.

Following a challenging two years, the Royston District Scouts were commended for maintaining an active and successful engagement with their young people throughout the serial lockdowns and restrictions. The vast majority of Scouts in our area have continued to benefit from the personal development opportunities and positive empowerment that the Scout movement has to offer.

The World Scout Jamboree offers young people the chance to learn new and transferable skills as well as campaign for change on key world issues which matter to them. All of those selected have demonstrated a strong commitment to Scouting in terms of attitude, skills and knowledge. During the Jamboree fortnight they will have the opportunity to engage with thousands of Scouts from all over the world, discover new cultures and take part in activities focussed on sustainability, skills development, environmental and global development issues.

Fundraising for the Jamboree is no mean feat, a whopping total of over £35,000! Wealthier countries, such as the UK, pay a higher contribution to ensure that Scouts from developing nations are able to afford to attend. Additionally it is the goal of the Royston District group to raise sufficient funds to ensure that there is a legacy fund for future Jamboree attendance from this district.
