If you’re looking for fresh eggs this Easter, or indeed at any time of the year, then local smallholding Bag End Farm is the place to go!
Bag End Farm is based just outside Royston, and is run by Charlotte, along with occasional help from her family.
Charlotte has loved animals from a very young age, owning her first chickens at 12 when her Dad brought 12 ex-battery hens home. She’s loved chickens ever since!
Charlotte and her family acquired a plot of land almost two years ago and within days, over 100 chickens had moved in and Bag End Farm was born.
Alongside the many chickens, they also have Crystal the emu, a cow, Golden Guernsey goats, 100 ducks, 20 geese, alpacas, pigs, two turkeys and some peacocks.
Their core business, though, is all about the birds. They sell the freshest of eggs to the local community to fund feed and bedding for everyone, and have sold nearly 30,000 eggs since the farm started, even providing duck eggs to the Fox & Duck in Therfield for their popular gammon and egg dish.
Their eggs can be purchased from their stall at 6 Valley Rise, Royston. We’re customers here at The Listing, and can confirm that their chicken and duck eggs are delicious!
They also work in partnership with the charity Chicken Rescue UK helping to re-home ex-commercial hens and are also a sanctuary for poultry and waterfowl that need new homes.
It’s been a really exciting couple of years for Bag End Farm, and they’ve achieved a lot in a short period of time, with loads of housing and fencing going up, thousands of eggs going out and even a prestigious first prize for eggs at the annual Gransden Agricultural Show.
