Studlands Rise First School Raises Funds for Young Lives vs Cancer
Students and teachers at Studlands Rise First School have raised an incredible £579 for Young Lives vs Cancer through donations at their Christmas plays last week (10th, 11th, 12th December 2024). The money raised will help children and young people facing cancer this Christmas.
This year is the second Christmas the school have dedicated their fundraising to Young Lives vs Cancer, raising an incredible £1,162 in total over the two events. They were inspired to fundraise for the charity as one of their pupils was diagnosed with leukaemia and they have since been supported by Young Lives vs Cancer. Nikki Wilby, Headteacher at Studlands Rise First School said, “We are really proud of our incredible pupils and their parents fundraising for Young Lives vs Cancer.”
This winter, many children, young people, and families going through cancer treatment will be travelling miles from home to get to hospital for treatment. They’ll be away from their friends and family, facing the extra costs that come with cancer on top of the emotional stress of facing the unknown. Young Lives vs Cancer Specialist Social Workers are there to help children, young people and families navigate cancer, to help them get the right support at the right time.
In the last year, Young Lives vs Cancer supported 129 families in Hertfordshire facing childhood cancer and gave out 92 financial grants to the value of £16,680 helping families to cope with the costs of cancer.
Kim Mangelshot, Fundraising Engagement Manager at Young Lives vs Cancer, says: “Thank you to everyone at Studlands Rise First School for welcoming me to your final Christmas show and for helping us be there for young people with cancer this Christmas.
“Our specialist social workers help families navigate the financial and emotional impacts of cancer, which don’t stop at Christmas time. Our Homes from Home help keep families together, so special moments aren’t lost this winter. They are a free place to stay, where families can have a home-cooked meal together or a mug of hot chocolate with a bedtime story.
“Thanks to our incredible fundraisers like Studlands Rise First School, we’re able to support families of children and young people facing cancer this Christmas.”

About cancer in children and young people – Today, 12 more children and young people in the UK will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. Treatment normally starts immediately, is often given many miles from home, and can last for up to three years. Although survival rates are over 80%, cancer remains the single largest cause of death from disease in children and young people in the UK.
About Young Lives vs Cancer
Young Lives vs Cancer is the only charity in the UK with specialist social workers who provide tailored support to children and young people with cancer, and their families.
They help them to navigate the emotional and practical impact of cancer. They remove barriers, solve problems and prioritise wellbeing. They take the time to understand what matters most to them. And stop at nothing to make their voices heard and their unique needs understood so that they can get the right care and support at the right time.
