My Local Life: Laura Whitford

Give someone 20 minutes to talk about their life and you never know what you might discover! This month, local shop owner and creative entrepreneur Laura Whitford tells us a little about herself.

Where do you live?
Royston. I moved here over three years ago. I’ve lived and worked all over Hertfordshire and can honestly say that I’d never want to live anywhere else. The community spirit here is amazing!

What’s your favourite local place to eat?
The Jolly Postie – I always get a warm welcome and love the pizzas and atmosphere.

Who do you most admire?
My amazing crafters who create such clever products – I’m in awe of most of them.

What is your guilty pleasure?
Watching old episodes of Prisoner Cell Block H.

What is you most memorable Royston experience?
The opening day of my shop, No.3. Working with all of the crafters to get it ready was amazing and having customers through the door and giving positive feedback was a dream come true.

What’s top of your Bucket List?
The American actor and director Jensen Ackles!

What is your favourite film?
Ghostbusters (the proper one). I also love Gone With The Wind but don’t watch that as often as it takes up most of the day!

What is your favourite way to spend a Saturday?
I’m usually working but I’d love to go to Cromer to wander around by the sea front more often.

What do you love about your work?
Everything! I love selling unique products made by local people, I love chatting to customers and having my own shop with wool in it has been a dream of mine for years!

What are you looking forward to most this February?
Seeing the handmade Valentine products the crafters bring in. The team always rise to the challenge when there is a special occasion coming up. The variety of things they produce is amazing!
