Community News: The Duncombe Arms to re-open its doors in Waresley, Sandy

Nutwood Pubs to revitalise well-loved community hub, challenging the Nationwide trend of village pub closures…

After over 18 months of being shuttered, the Duncombe Arms is about to throw open its doors once again under the stewardship of Nutwood Pubs. At a moment when local pubs across the UK are disappearing fast, this historic Waresley landmark is bucking the trend by pioneering a fresh approach to hospitality and community engagement.

Nutwood Pubs has engaged experienced hospitality professionals Ian and Karen Hawthorne to bring The Duncombe Arms back to life. “Pubs are the heartbeat of village life, warm and welcoming places to socialise, relax and bridge the gap between work and home,” says Ian, whose career spans award-winning pubs, as well as hotels and B&Bs, adding “We’re not just reopening a pub; we’re reviving a gathering place where everyone feels at home.”

The reimagined Duncombe Arms will offer more than just good quality food and drink. As with all other Nutwood pubs, the aim is to host a vibrant calendar of community events and activities – from quiz nights and live music to book clubs and craft workshops. Its menus will showcase the best of local producers, and it will be a place where friends and families can look forward to delicious lunches, relaxed evenings and amazing Sunday roasts.

With the Duncombe Arms joining the Nutwood family of pubs, members of the free-to-join Nutwood Club will be able to use points earned from purchases to make big savings on the cost of food and drinks at any Nutwood venue.

The Duncombe Arms has sat at the heart of Waresley for many generations, and as the doors re-open in the next few weeks, Nutwood Pubs will be inviting the wider community to reclaim their pub with new vigour. The message from Karen Hawthorne to the local community is simple, “every pint poured and every conversation held here helps to preserve something special. This is your place as much it is ours.”

Martin Prescott, founder and director of Nutwood Pubs, was smitten with the Duncombe Arms at first sight and is now passionate about its re-opening. “As Nutwood is committed to putting the heart back into village life, restoring the Duncombe Arms to its rightful place in the community is both a joy and an honour. I look forward to seeing you all in the Dunk soon!”
