As we looked through The Listing archives for our celebration issue, we were delighted to discover that September 2005 also marked the opening of Royston Leisure Centre!
Many of our readers will remember the buzz of excitement when the town learned we were getting our very own multi-sport leisure centre – and we proudly featured the opening in the very first issue of The Listing.
20 years on, Royston Leisure Centre is undergoing a major refurbishment.
Key improvements include a large gym extension with state-of-the-art equipment, and a refurbished changing village.
As well as enhancing the customer experience, the upgrades are part of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, to make our leisure centres greener, more energy-efficient and better equipped for the future.
Gas boilers are being replaced with air source heat pumps, solar panels installed, along with improved insulation, glazing, and air handling systems, and other modern, energy-saving technologies.
Regrettably, there are some temporary closures while the works are carried out.
The latest information:
- The Main Pool is currently closed and will reopen on 9th Sept
- 18th Aug–23rd Oct: No access to changing rooms
- 24th Oct–7th Nov: Partial access – showers, cubicles, toilets & lockers available
During this time, please:
• Arrive swim ready (in your swimwear)
• Bring a dry robe or similar to leave the centre after your swim
• Use the temporary entrance/exit via reception
