Community News: Getting Ready for Summer, Royston Repair Cafe

The repairers at the Royston Repair Café don’t claim to be able to fix the weather, but they can help you prepare for the months ahead.

Whether it’s a broken garden parasol for shade or an umbrella that no longer protects against the rain, the repairers are prepared to take a look at it at the next community repair event in mid-August. Rain or shine, if you plan to be busy in the garden, make sure your strimmer strims and mower mows, and book them in if they don’t.

Check your shed for garden chairs that haven’t seen daylight since last summer or tools that need to be sharpened to work properly. Book in your bike if it needs some tender care before you saddle up and cycle off.

Owners of broken items are always impressed by the friendliness and skills of the volunteer repairers. Comments from the last Royston Repair Café in May included “brilliant – great advice”, “amazingly helpful”, “efficient and friendly”, and “explained the problem clearly”. Even those whose items couldn’t be fixed had a clear conscience about taking them to the recycling centre for disposal.

Discover the delights of getting a fix at the next Royston Repair Cafe – 2- 5pm on Saturday 17th August, at the Coombes Community Centre.

Advance booking is essential for a free assessment and, if possible, a fix of your broken item (only one per person).
