Therfield Heath is an area of Common Land and most of it is a Local Nature Reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is owned by the Therfield Regulation Trust, which is a registered charity.
It is managed by the Conservators of Therfield Heath and Greens.
Around Therfield there are registered Village Greens and other areas of Common Land which are held and manged in the same way.
Sustainable Shepreth was initiated in January 2023 by a group of residents.
We are all passionate about finding ways to address the effects of climate change and loss of biodiversity in our community.
We have the encouragement of the Parish Council and are keen to involve the whole village, and the support of the wider community, in these endeavours.
Repair Cafés are quarterly events to which owners of broken household items come for a free assessment and, hopefully, a free fix by a volunteer repairer.
The Royston Repair Cafe happens quarterly (in February, May, August and November) at Coombes Community Centre.
Royston Environmental Group are a membership organisation that aims to work towards a more sustainable future for Royston and villages.
We run various different activities including organising the annual eco fair Sustain-Ability, volunteering at the Royston Tesco Community Garden, litterpicking, Plastic Free picnic, and more.
A voluntary group working alongside the Conservators of Therfield Heath and Greens to promote and encourage the use of, and access to, Therfield Heath, including organising events, raising awareness of the related bye laws and regulations and encouraging conservation protection, and improvement of the natural environment, and improved facilities for the users.
