Wow… isn’t learning something new exhilarating, exhausting and exactly what we need sometimes?
I loved being a student again last month, it reminded me how good it feels when concentration and cognition are switched “on” and turned up to full volume. Life becomes colourful, all-encompassing… and very present.
In a world full of distraction, there’s something so refreshing about giving your full attention to one thing. Hands on the reins, the mind becomes focused and suddenly you’re enjoying the ride rather than being dragged along by the busyness of it all.
I came away feeling inspired and wanting to do more.
There’s also something lovely about learning alongside others too. Friends, strangers who become friends, or simply sitting beside people who share the same curiosity and interests. There’s a quiet sense of connection in those moments.
We often think mindfulness must happen through meditation or yoga, but sometimes mindfulness looks like learning to weave, paint, cook, sing, knot, build, dance or create. Sometimes it’s simply about being so immersed in something that you arrive fully into the moment.
Keep learning and opening yourself up to new skills, experiences and possibilities.
As one of my clients once shared: “Sometimes it’s about having had the experience that is the best bit.”
I think there’s real wisdom in that.
Not everything has to become productive or profitable or perfect. Some things are valuable simply because they wake us up a little. Because they remind us we are creative, capable and still growing.
My next Make • Create • Meditate Mala Making Day takes place on 2nd July. A full day of mindful creativity, beautiful beads, intention, meditation and connection… like a little retreat wrapped inside a workshop.
