Community News: The Chalk Hare, Now Open After Renovation

The transformation of Banyers House, into the Chalk Hare, the latest member of the Acorn family of pubs, is now complete. The doors opened to the public at 12noon on Thursday 26th March after a couple of preview evenings for the local Royston residents to say thank you for their ongoing support.

The 50 strong crew have been undergoing training over the last two weeks and it’s been so lovely to see how they have bonded, under the guidance of Landlord Russell and Head Chef Sergiu and the help of some veterans from Acorn sister pubs, the Royal Foresters in Ascot and the Akeman in Tring.

Each Acorn pub is very much individual, but all hold the same ideals of what makes a ‘proper pub’; beautiful buildings offering a warm welcome, a good range of beers, freshly cooked food, delicious and affordable wine and genuine hospitality. It will be wonderful to see how Russell makes it his own. He is already receiving recommendations from his new customers, whether it be future real ales and local brewery links, quizzes or live music, it’s been so fantastic getting so much feedback from locals who are keen to see new life breathed back into the pub.

The Chalk Hare boasts a beautiful garden room, terraced area with lawns and a Private Dining room seating 12 -14 people. There’s an inviting bar, stocked with a range of 12 or so craft beers and lagers on tap, alongside 5 cask ales, a wine list paired to complement the food menu and a cocktail list calling on some of the 200 plus spirits that adorn the back bar. The bar area is welcoming to dogs and their owners, whilst other areas have a more restaurant feel, with plenty of places to either soak up the atmosphere or have a quiet moment.

Our 9 bedrooms are individually styled to reflect the building’s historic character while providing thoughtful contemporary comforts for a truly relaxing stay. We can’t wait to welcome guests.

All menus are available to view online at www.thechalkhare.co.uk and you can follow the pubs day-to-day life on Facebook @chalkhareroyston or Instagram @chalkhareroyston

Acorn Pubs Information

Acorn Pubs are a small collection of pubs, many of which offer bedrooms, located primarily across the Home Counties. They are owned and operated by the team behind Brunning & Price, a pub group well known for running welcoming pubs built around good food, good drink and genuine hospitality.

Each of our pubs has its own character with buildings ranging from historic inns to more contemporary spaces, all shaped to suit the communities they serve.

Our bars offer a wide range of draft beers, wines and cocktails, alongside a menu of freshly prepared food cooked using traditional techniques, including wood-fired ovens and charcoal grills, with an emphasis on quality ingredients.

Whether guests are meeting friends for drinks, enjoying a relaxed meal with family, settling in for a Sunday roast, or escaping for a couple of nights in one of our rooms, we aim to provide comfortable, welcoming places to spend time together.

While Acorn Pubs sit alongside the wider Brunning & Price family, they remain a separate collection with their own style and atmosphere, united by the same commitment to friendly service and great hospitality.
