Pupils at Sandon JMI School have rolled up their sleeves and unleashed their creativity to help raise vital funds for charity by decorating a tractor for the Farmers on Christmas Lights Tour in north Hertfordshire on Sunday 21st December.
Back for its 5th year, the event brings together farmers, families and local organisations aiming to raise £50,000 for Garden House Hospice. This year, Sandon JMI volunteered to take part and under the guidance of teachers and with support from local volunteers, the children have designed a bevy of swans towing a tractor and sleigh. The tractor has been provided by Lower Heath Farm, near Baldock. The theme chosen by the pupils is the symbol of their rural school and in keeping with its Forest School status.
Ricky Boxall, headteacher of Sandon JMI said: “We are incredibly proud of our pupils for their enthusiasm, teamwork and creativity. Taking part in the Farmers on Christmas Lights Tour not only supports an important local charity but also gives our children a real sense of community spirit and achievement. They were so excited to take part. Seeing their artwork on a full-size tractor has not only helped them feel connected to the wider farming community but also proud to be helping others particularly at this time of year.”
For one night only the Swan tractor will join over 100 festive farm vehicles and parade through Baldock, Letchworth and Hitchin bringing magic to the towns a few days before Christmas. The event is expected to draw large crowds as families, staff and local residents are all encouraged to come along, cheer on the young decorators’ handiwork and donate if they can.
The tractor rally which is organised by local farmers, takes place on Sunday 21st December starting at 6.00pm, Clothall Road, Baldock, finishing around 7.30pm at Hitchin Priory. All donations will directly support the charity and can be made on the day, through the charity website www.ghhospicecare.org.uk/tractors via JustGiving, or by texting TRACTOR to 70460 to donate £5 *
