This month Royston Photographic Society turn their spotlight on photographer David Waters.
David joined the Royston Photographic Society after visiting the annual exhibition at the Royston Arts Festival some years ago. He was most impressed with the images on display, and convinced by the friendly members at the event that ‘everyone’ could take excellent photographs with just a little help from their friends. How right they were.
Although his interests are primarily wildlife and landscapes he has loved expanding his photographic range over the years, and has been very involved in a number of projects for local causes and charities.
In 2024 he helped set-up a ‘Past & Present’ photographic event in conjunction with the Royston Museum, designed as a Royston Town walk for children and parents. The response from the adults that attended was possibly even better than the children as we all realised how much of old Royston is still amongst us.
He has also taken a number of monochrome images of Royston for a forthcoming book to be released by local author Damien O’Dell.
David’s latest project is bringing a number of 120 year old glass negatives to life for a new website on historical Edinburgh – www.edinburgh-photographic-history.co.uk

David continues to be an active member of Royston Photographic Society to build on his existing social friendships, continue his photographic learning through competitions and club nights, as well as being able to share his hobby with like-minded photographers.
