The Friends look forward in 2026 to continue supporting projects on Therfield Heath and Greens.
Recently we supported the Sun Hill Common group by funding the equipment needed to protect two newly planted young trees as they grow to maturity. We also fund the necessary tools used by the volunteers who carry out maintenance work on the Heath.
A variety of events and activities are arranged for members and non members to promote a greater understanding of the local environment and/or raise funds for projects. During 2025 The Friends organised a quiz night, the Easter Egg Hunt, a Bat walk, three Yoga on the Heath sessions and seven En Plein Art Sessions. The Wildlife talks in the Town Hall covered a range of subjects from Hedgehogs to Nature in the Falklands. We also arranged a members only wildflower walk led by a conservation expert, two company staff volunteering days and 12 litter picks. FOTH joined with Royston Environmental Group and Royston Museum for Big Green Week, giving a talk on Therfield Heath and providing a fun bug hotel building activity. In 2026 the monthly litter picks will be taking place as usual on the second Sunday of the month.
The Heath and Greens are managed by the Conservators and we work with them to support their projects where we can. Find out more about the Conservators and their conservation planning by coming to their open public meeting and election of Conservators on Thursday 12th February 2026.
Our activities for this year are being planned. Upcoming events will be advertised locally and on our website www.friendsoftherfieldheath.org.uk. If you can help us, email: friendsoftherfieldheath@gmail.com
Our thanks and appreciation go to all our volunteers and members for their support and help throughout the year.
