For this year’s Spring lunch, Royston Health Walks decided to support and promote the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust and raise money for cancer services and the new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital.
Addenbrooke’s has helped so many of our walkers and their families and this was an opportunity for us to say thank you for all their help, care, treatment and support.
We had 49 people at our lunch at the Fox and Duck on Wednesday 22nd May and managed to raise £343.10. It rained most of the day and we had to cancel our walks but it didn’t dampen our enthusiasm; we had a great day and raised some much needed funds. Our very special thanks to the Fox and Duck Team for all their efforts and support.
Royston Health Walks is an independent social walking group. We are very welcoming, friendly, non-cliquey and positively inclusive. We are amblers NOT ramblers, join us for a walk, a chat and a brew. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us regardless of age, level of fitness and in principle state of health. We have a number of different walks every Wednesday all of which start at The Heath Café, Baldock Road, Royston, SG8 5BG. The walks are free, you only pay for your refreshments and we are always very happy to have children, buggies and dogs join us.
We have two walks at 10am every Wednesday morning, a leisurely walk over Therfield Heath (about 1½ miles) and a slow/flat walk. Both are opportunities to get a bit of exercise, have a chat and meet new people. The two groups come together at the Café for a brew at around 11am, come along even if it is just for the refreshments.
Our Wednesday afternoon walk is a bit more challenging and a little longer (about 2 miles) and starts at 5pm (2pm in the winter) and ends up at the Café.
