News from Royston Library by Lynn Burgess Library Manager…

Over the past few months, the team at Royston Library has enjoyed welcoming back customers old and new as we continue our return to business as usual.

Along with the Baby Rhyme Time, Storytimes and Therapy Dog sessions we are pleased to announce that there are even more fun events and activities lined up for May and June.

During May we are celebrating Local History Month with a display on loan from Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies and a special Family Learning LEGO event called “Ready, Steady, Build a LEGO Town for Hertfordshire”  Families will work together to build a new town whilst learning a few facts about Royston and exploring our local history books. This takes place on Saturday 7th May at 2.15pm.  Tickets are £3.00 per child (5 – 9 yr olds) and accompanying adults are free. Available from the library and online www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/libraries

We are very excited to be planning for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  On Saturday 28th May we will be holding a special Jubilee Weekend Stories session for under 8’s, inviting everyone to come along in their royal regalia to listen to stories about queens, princesses, princes and all things royal! No booking is required.  Following on from this, we will be encouraging a royal theme for Baby Rhyme Time on Wednesday 1st June at 10:15am and again at 11:15am.  Dress up and join us for some fun. Tickets are free and bookable at www.eventbrite.co.uk  from 12 noon on 28th May. These sessions are all free but donations are welcome as they enable us to continue to offer additional activities.  A Royal Rummage Hunt will also take place during this week to find the corgis who have hidden themselves around the library. Can you find all of them?

The Royston Library Jubilee Jamboree takes centre stage on Saturday 4th June. Our royally decorated library will be the place to head to for celebrations with a cuppa and a cake and activities for children and their families. We’ll have a large jigsaw to complete and several photos on display from the coronation and previous jubilees. Crown decorating, bookmark making and plenty of stencilling and colouring will be the order of the day.  This is a free drop in from 10.00am – 2.00pm but donations are much appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you in the library soon, joining the library, collecting some great books or joining in with one of our events or activities.
