Great Chishill Windmill Opening
We achieved the aim of having the windmill with tail, access stairway and sails in place for the re-opening on June 8th. The weather even gave us a short break in the rain so that around 300 folk could gather around the mill to see the unveiling of a bench dedicated to the memory of Jim Brearley, our first Chairman and prime mover of the Trust, followed by the main ribbon cutting performed by international singing star, Sam Smith, who grew up in the village.
Despite the event being arranged as a free to all celebration, we are delighted to report that the raffle and donations raised £1900, which easily cleared our costs. Thanks to all of you who attended. Of course, many of you could not be with us on the day so we have appended a description that appeared in our village Newsletter this week.
Finally, we’d like to bring to your attention an initiative taken by our Chair, Hazel Hayden, to produce a photo book commemorating the completion of the first phase of restoration and including the listing of the sponsors of boards. If you are interested in ordering a copy, please give the information requested in the reply strip to Hazel, either by email or to her postal address. Thank you.
