5 Things To Do With the Kids this Summer

It only feels like yesterday we were home schooling so summer holidays and more freedom feel really special. Here are my family’s top 5 summer to do’s so you can enjoy ‘time out and off’ together.

Thetford Forest This could actually be my top one, two and three as there is so much to do, it’s our dogs favourite day out but for those that haven’t been, or have not been in a while, Thetford forest has a plethora of activities to suit everyone, whether it be the kids playgrounds, Go Ape, Archery or our family favourite bike around the 10km blue route (my husband runs with the dog at the same time). It is a full day for only the cost of carparking and maybe an ice cream, if you take a picnic!

Letchworth Lido – Not far from here, there is a huge child friendly outdoor pool which is perfect for a hot summer’s day. My favourite part is you can choose to either jump in or sunbathe on the green next to the pool, take a book and/ or a journal, whatever pastime you enjoy and relax while your kids have fun!

Shepreth Wildlife Park – We are so lucky to have this fabulous park on our doorstep. There are some beautiful exotic parrots and curious meerkats to befriend. It really does feel like you’ve walked into another world.

Wimpole Walks – The Wimpole Estate has seen a significant investment over the last few years, with new trails around the woods (so no mud!) It’s a great loop out, make sure you take a lead for the dog as it can get quiet busy on a weekend so my tip is a mid-week jaunt around the trails and then sit on the hill by the folly and take in the views of the lake and estate.

Wild Swim Box End! – Wild swimming is fun and whilst Box End Park in Bedfordshire is a little drive it’s rewarding! We find an early morning wild swim in the lake at 8 or 9am is amazing, there is also a ninja soft play on a lake afterward for the kids (and husband) that I am assured is fantastic fun.
