Community News: Thursday Morning Parkinson’s Club

The Thursday Morning Parkinson’s Club, supported by Parkinson’s UK North Herts and Stevenage Branch meets every Thursday 10.30am – 12noon at Coombes Community Centre.

Over 150 people live with Parkinson’s in our area and increasingly, people are being offered nonpharmacological interventions such as exercise, dance, voice work and singing to help maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The club, commissioned by Parkinson’s UK, aims to reach out to all those who are affected by the condition including family, friends, carers: anybody who feels they would benefit from social and physical activity, not to mention the laughter and friendship that evolves. There are no county boundaries. If you can get there, we welcome you.

It is worth mentioning at this point that Royston has its own Parkinson’s Café run at The Bull on the last Tuesday of the month, an exercise class at Royston Leisure Centre every lunchtime on Tuesdays and the ParkinSing session will continue on Thursday mornings. Our new club/hub builds on this existing provision, and we are hoping that more people will come forward with ideas for the future.

The Thursday Morning Parkinson’s Club meets every Thursday 10.30am – 12noon at Coombes Community Centre, Burns Rd, Royston, SG8 5PT. Cost £5pp which includes refreshments.
