Therfield Heath Conservation

Sheep will be returning to some of the more biologically sensitive areas, as previously explained grazing by herd stock is the best conservation technique we have for maintaining the wildflower meadows and we have arranged for a local farmer to graze the areas known as Church hill and Penn Hill.

These areas will be surrounded by an electric fence and there are entrance points which attempt to utilise the footpaths used by the public. We request that you keep your dog on a lead when inside the fences as these Ewes will be pregnant and if they are chased by a dog or even humans it can cause the Ewe to lose the lamb.

We are also hoping to find a new grazier with support from local farmer Edward Darling one of our current stint holders, to have sheep on the area near to the café however if this does not occur we will be carrying out a cut and collect as we have done previously.

The Kite festival was a really great success and well done to the Rotary club for organising, we had our own stand next to the Friends Of group which allowed us to speak with and engage with so many users of the site. People were able to let us know of changes they want us to consider, such as the steps going back into the woods, and just how much they love their Heath.

The Listing magazine allows us to connect with everyone in the area on a monthly basis. We encourage those readers to also use our website and Facebook as a great way to access instant messages. Please search “Therfield Heath & Greens” and this will take you to our web site and also our Facebook page.
