The Listing News: Two Decades of The Listing

We’ve always strived to create The Listing front covers have always been a talking point.

The Listing started as a black and white magazine back in 2005,  and even though our black and white covers were striking, we were delighted to be able to grow into a full colour magazine in June 2006.

Our front cover this month showcases 152 cover images from our archives, including all the first year issues on the top row.

We wanted to differentiate Royston’s magazine with the A5 version of The Listing that we publish for the surrounding SG8 villages, and choose to feature a different, but themed, image on each version of the magazine. This month, of course, both issues feature our 20th celebration collage!

Over the years, Therfield Heath, Royston Parish Church, the Kite Festival, Great Chishill Windmill, harvest scenes, and the Pasque flower have all featured many times on our covers, alongside poppies for Remembrance, and daffodils, roses and strawberries to mark the changing seasons.

Our covers have evolved through nine layouts, each one staying with us for several years, which you can see here.

We’ve featured many local photographers, and we are so grateful to everyone for their contributions, including Caroline Baker, Bex Iles, Paul Norris, Amy Murphy, Sarah Haskell, Carmen Norman, Royston Arts Festival, Royston Photographic Soc., Glenn Duddy, Gemma Usher and Thriplow Daffodil Weekend.

Our team has also joined in with their own photography.  Many of these have been out-and-about nature shots – from local sunrises and sunsets, to the Heath through the seasons – and who could forget last summer’s spectacular Northern Lights?

Whether you’re a local photographer or simply enjoy snapping pictures while out and about, we’d love to hear from you – your work could feature on one of our front covers.

The magazines themselves have always been a mix of community and business news, and our aim has always been to inform our communities of what’s going on in the area.

Each year, our magazines showcase the key events that bring our community together, from the Royston May Fayre, Christmas light switch-ons, town trails, and Thriplow Daffodil Weekend, to Royston Cave openings, Ashwell at Home, the Ashwell Show, village fetes, Remembrance Services and parades, pantomimes, church services, fireworks nights, Halloween events, and more.  We also highlight events further afield that we think will be of interest, such as Open Cambridge, Heritage Open Days, Herts and Cambs Open Studios and Cambridge Science Festival.  Our aim has always been to be the local go-to guide for what’s on, helping to keep our community connected.

We have worked with 100s, if not 1000s, of local organisations and businesses over the past 20 years, which has always been a joy, to help organisations connect with their customers, and grow their own businesses.  We know that the service we are offering is so valued by both our readers and the many people in our community who are running a community group or a business.

We always strive to give an excellent service to everyone, and help connect your events, products and services with the people in our community.
