Air cadets from 2484 (Bassingbourn) Squadron were out and about at the Royston Town Fayre recently, to promote their organisation to prospective new members.
Cadets were able to demonstrate skills such as first aid, fieldcraft and STEM. They were keen to talk about their recent activities such as air experience flying and Easter camp, and how they are looking forward to doing their D of E Expeditions and attending the Royal International Air Tattoo in the coming weeks.
With kind permission of Royston Town Council, the ATC Ensign was flown on the town hall flag post over the first weekend of February to celebrate the formation of the Air Training Corps on 5th February 1941.
RAF Air Cadets are a UK-wide cadet force with more than 40,000 members and open to anyone aged between 12 in year 8, and 17 years old. 2484 (Bassingbourn) Squadron are the local squadron for Royston and the surrounding villages. They parade on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Bassingbourn Barracks.
Sponsored by the RAF, they can give you hands-on experience of activities and courses that will challenge and develop your skills to help you succeed in whatever you want to do.
Membership of RAFAC is exciting, rewarding and above all fun. You’ll discover skills you never knew you had, do things and visit places you never thought you would, and meet lots of like-minded people who will become your teammates and friends.
You’ll also have the opportunity to challenge yourself with adventurous training, achieve all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, and may be selected to represent RAFAC on the International Air Cadet Exchange programme or develop your potential on the Air Cadet Leadership Course. You can really shine as a cadet.
