Royston Museum – November Update by Emma Canterbury – Royston Museum Manager

As I write this month’s article, I’m nervously waiting for the outcome of a funding application we submitted back at the end of August.

If we’re successful, then we’ll be undertaking an exciting project to upgrade the Museum’s two stores (rooms) which hold 95% of the collection not currently on public display!

The project will involve the purchase and installation of new custom, ‘museum-grade’ shelving which will increase our storage capacity and allow us to better care for the Museum’s collection. At the same time, we’ll be carrying out a review of the collection to improve our catalogue. Our catalogue is essentially our go-to database where we record everything we know about all the objects in our care.

If our funding application is successful, then the project may already be underway as you read this. We plan to close the Museum from early November until early 2025, to give us the time and space needed to undertake all of the work.

If you want to find out more about what’s happening at the Museum over the winter but can’t wait for the next edition of The Listing, follow us on social media where we’ll be sharing regular updates or sign up to the Museum’s monthly newsletter.

Job Vacancy: Do you have a keen eye for detail and an interest in museum collections?

Working 3 days a week on a one year-fixed term contract, you will work alongside our small team to assist with migrating our catalogue to a new collections management system and updating and improving the entries in our catalogue.
