Keep Britain Tidy hold their annual Great British Spring Clean in March; this year from The Great British Spring Clean is the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign.
Each year, more than 400,000 volunteers clear litter from our streets, parks and beaches. What a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the start of Spring! Noticing and collecting litter helps us appreciate so much more of the outdoors, and there is plenty of research demonstrating that being more connected with Nature helps our mental as well as physical health.
We are lucky to have so much natural wealth accessible to us in Royston. From Therfield Heath to Tesco Royston Community Garden, and long distance walking routes such as the Icknield Way, there is something for everyone. There are now several walking groups that are open to anyone meeting regularly on the Heath, or you could join a gentle Town Council stroll through the Plantations to observe wildlife.
Friends of Therfield Heath organise regular litter picks, and there is also a Royston Environmental Group Community Tidy Up coming up on 29th March, which you can register for here: https://forms.gle/taux3vNe4jaFYrfJ7
Do get out if you can. If you are not able to go out and about in the countryside, a garden or allotment, you can still watch birds and butterflies from the comfort of your home and plant flowers and veg indoors. However you choose to experience Nature, please make the most of it.
