Spring is definitely in the air now, with shoots growing and fledglings appearing. What better time of year to get out and make the most of our wonderful surroundings, and start doing something to help nature?
7th-15th June is national Great Big Green Week; the UK’s biggest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. During the week, communities, schools, businesses, churches, mosques and more join together in a wave of support for action to protect the planet.
A themed event at Royston Museum on Saturday 14th June will celebrate how Royston is taking action to tackle climate change, protect nature and make little swaps for good in our own lives. There’ll be a whole host of activities from different groups for everyone to enjoy; from hands-on maintenance and repair advice to seed/plant swaps and crafts to take home with you. There will be film showings and talks throughout the day.
If you can’t make it to the museum, you can still commit to “Take the Jump” takethejump.org/six-shifts-help and choose one small change to make in your life. You might choose to buy more pre-loved, make fewer journeys by plane or car, eat greener, join a local environmental group or build a more nature friendly garden.
All these small changes will add up with others here in Royston and around the world to make a big difference to our town and our planet.
