Royston Cave Highlights with Emma – Then & Now

The Royston Arts Festival theme of Then and Now has given us the opportunity to share a rare glimpse of the Cave floor.

We are fortunate to have many old drawings and photographs of the cave and the carvings, which we will be sharing during our special Arts Festival evening at the cave.

This photograph shows the original floor, when it was last excavated during 1976. The tile shown in the small string perimeter on the right of the picture has the letter ‘N’ scribed onto it, which shows the direction of north in the cave. We will be sharing such photographs, copies of drawings, artefacts and other cave related items on Wednesday 24th September between 6pm and 7.30pm.

See the Arts Festival programme for full details, which has been delivered alongside this issue of The Listing, and is also available online at creativeroyston.org

Royston Cave is open until Sunday 28th September for the 2025 season, every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

Public tours are closed during the winter, and will  re-start in April 2026.  Private tours and group bookings are available year round.
