Out & About: Thriplow Daffodil Weekend & Country Fair

With fun activities for all the family, plus 41,000 new daffodil bulbs planted last autumn, Thriplow Daffodil Weekend is guaranteed to be a golden feast for the eyes.

Set in the South Cambs village of Thriplow, this charity fundraising event is run entirely by local volunteers. Thriplow Daffodil Weekend started in 1969 when the church needed major roof repairs. Residents decided to raise funds by opening their gardens and making cups of tea for their visitors. They made an amazing £206 and were so delighted they decided to do it all again the following year – and so the Thriplow Daffodil Weekend was born. Over £500,000 has been raised over the last 50+ years.

The tireless work of the village was recognised in 2011 when the Committee received The Queens Award for Voluntary Service (the equivalent of an MBE for charities).

There are now half a million daffodils across 117 different varieties planted around the village, including their very own variety called Thriplow Gold. Each year, the village has planted more daffodils of both early and late varieties, to try and ensure there is always a stunning display, despite the unpredictable seasons!

Enjoy two days of fun activities and fresh air for all the family with lots to see and do at Country Thriplow, Children’s Thriplow, Vintage Thriplow and the Anglia Militia Reenactment group, or amble through over 100 stalls to find that something special.

Check out the stunning flower displays in the beautiful St George’s Church, join the blacksmiths hard at work in the Smithy, and be entertained by the Morris dancers merrily working their way through the village.

Then recharge at Taste of Thriplow for street food and a beer or enjoy hot drinks and homemade cake at the Village Tearooms. With live music being played all around the village, it’s the perfect place to get some springtime cheer.

Every year, the exceptional Thriplow community works hard to pull off one of the best loved charity events in Cambridgeshire. They look forward to seeing you there!
