News From Royston Town Market – Cheesey Bob

The market town of Royston was awarded its Charter during the time of Richard I (1189). Icknield Way, Ermine Street, High Street and King Street marked the original areas of the market until gradually the buildings in the centre of the streets became permanent buildings and the market was moved to its current position today on Market Hill.

The market operates on a Wednesday and Saturday with trading starting at 8am and finishing at approximately 3.30pm.

Royston Market boasts a number of traders who have worked on the market for a considerable period of time. This longevity speaks volumes for the quality of products on offer and detailed below are just a number of the stalls that you will find on both Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Each month The Listing will introduce one of Royston’s market traders.

We would like to highlight the popular ‘Cheesey-Bob’ as he is known to his customers. Bob’s family first started trading in Royston some 50 years ago and he sells an extremely wide range of quality cheeses including the award winning ‘Black Bomber’ cheddar, Stilton and Wensleydale along with many other varieties. Pork pies, sausages, smoked/unsmoked bacon joints and eggs make up just part of what is on offer. You can find Bob on the market every Wednesday from 8am along with of course all the regular market traders bringing fresh and high quality produce to our town.

Royston Market encourages new applications from traders wishing to work on the market. So if you feel you have commodities to sell which will complement the current offer please contact:  The Market Manager, Town Hall, Melbourn Street, Royston.  SG8 7DA or call 01763 245484
