News from our Clubs & Societies: Meldreth Bowls Clubs

Did you manage to catch any of the World Championship Bowls from Potters on the television a few weeks ago?

I wonder where these world-class bowlers started their bowling careers. I’m willing to bet that they visited their local bowls club on an open day, or were taken along by a friend, and having had a go, found that they enjoyed the experience. We all have to start somewhere.

A Bowls Club local to you (should you like to visit) is Meldreth Bowls Club and we are are formally inviting anybody that would like to “have a go” either to our “Green Opening Day” on Saturday 19th April at 2pm or to our “Public Open Day” on Saturday 3rd May also at 2pm.

If you are unable to attend on these dates, you are welcome to come along to one of our weekly Roll Up sessions, which take place on Tuesday mornings (starting 22nd April) from 10am to 12 noon and on Saturday afternoons (starting 26th April) from 2 to 4pm.

Each of which includes a tea/coffee break halfway through. Please wear flat shoes – we will supply the rest.

One of the most attractive aspects about Lawn Bowls is that it doesn’t matter how young or old you are to enjoy it (some of our active older members are in their 90s).  Also, it is a particularly social activity, each game can be followed by a visit to our club bar or a welcome hot drink, both accompanied by refreshments. We currently have just over 40 members, some of whom are social-members only and don’t play in league matches. We are in three leagues and (dare I say it) always seem to do well in each.

Our reputation is one of a friendly and welcoming club, and you can find more information on our website, or you could give me a call (Dave Rich) on 01763 262 116 or 01985 438 642.

We look forward to meeting you.
