Children in Year 1 at Icknield Walk First School have been enjoying their ‘Superheroes’ topic.
Children came into school dressed as their favourite Superhero which was very fortunate as they had a special mission to complete. Wicked Professor Spade had stolen some classroom dolls and buried them in the mud. Taken from the exciting and innovative story ‘Traction Man Is Here’, pupils created their own comic strip, showing ways in which they could help Traction Man rescue the poor dolls. Children also got creative designing and creating their unique superhero shields. What an exciting day!
Children in Reception have also been learning about Superheroes but this time in the form of our emergency service workers. Police and paramedic visits gave the children a super opportunity to interview, explore, discover and role play. Mrs Williams, class teacher told us; ‘We are very thankful to have visitors in. Seeing how the children’s learning is enhanced by such visits is a delight to see. We know that to be a real superhero you need kindness, bravery, and strength, all of which we practice every day.’
