Local Club Swims With Olympians
Diving into the new swimming season in style, ten lucky winners from Royston Swimming Club (RSC) spent an afternoon with five-time Olympic champion, Adam Peaty, who led the Ultimate Race Clinic at the world-famous London Aquatics Centre.
Peaty is one of only six British swimmers to have won gold medals at all four major international events – Olympic, World, European, and Commonwealth Games – unbeaten current and world record holder for 50m and 100m Breaststroke. He is widely regarded as the dominant breaststroke swimmer of his era, and the most dominant sprint breaststroke swimmer of all time.
The half-day experience included race strategies and mental fitness delivered by Peaty, land training, warm-up techniques, and fuelling and nutrition talks. It included guidance from his wider team of Olympic athletes including James Guy, Olympic butterfly and freestyle swimmer, Luke Greenbank, Olympic backstroker and relay swimmer, and Anna Hopkin who won gold as part of the British team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in mixed 4 × 100 metre medley relay, setting a new world record time.
The swimmers then got to put it all into action with a simulation race, with Lily and her mum winning the competition places.
Located at Royston Leisure Centre, Royston Swimming Club thrives on coaching swimmers from Swim England award stages 8-10 to Masters level (18+). Royston swimmers have achieved success at County, Regional, and even National and International championships over the years.
Powered almost entirely by dedicated volunteers, the Club is on the hunt for one or two local businesses to sponsor, or make a donation towards, our 2023/24 gala season, – it’s a fantastic way to promote health and wellbeing within the local community.
