Flower Festival Flourishes Again

Flower Festival Flourishes Again

Mid-winter, with its bitter cold, short days, and very little colour in the gardens is not considered the usual time of year to hold a flower festival and most of these displays would be booked in for the Summer months.

However, the organisers of a Winter Flower Festival bucked the trend at the weekend and celebrated their 8th bi-annual display at Melbourn’s All Saints Church. Once again not only did local floral arrangers create some inspiring and original displays, but several contributors from surrounding villages also assisted in making the event of over 20 arrangements a well-supported success.  The white of the many snowdrops contrasted with the vivid colours of several the other presentations, which included from church-themed events, to nursery rhymes, and topical events.

The organiser, Rosemary Gatward, was extremely pleased with the event. “I would like to thank everyone that contributed to another very successful display. Once again, we had a great turnout with visitors from as far afield as Huntingdon. Many thanks also to the numerous local businesses, and members of All Saints congregation that donated to the Festival.”

The crowds were entertained by musicians and there were handmade crafts, homemade soup, cakes and beverages available in the adjoining Community Hall.

All monies raised from the Festival will be contributed to the Church funds.
