The Friends of Therfield Heath, founded in 2018, continue to grow their presence across the community, with a busy calendar of events, environmental activities, and partnerships. Their mission remains focused on protecting and promoting the unique landscape of Therfield Heath through engagement, education, and collaboration.
The popular annual Quiz Night was once again a resounding success. The Friends extend a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who took part and helped raise funds in support of their ongoing work.
The 2025 season of Yoga on the Heath began in March with a Spring Equinox session. Despite the drizzle and grey skies, a group gathered in a peaceful corner of the Heath for a relaxing practice led by yoga instructor Aline Lemos. Further sessions are planned to celebrate the Summer Solstice on 20th June and the Autumn Equinox in September.
In preparation for spring festivities, the April litter pick helped clear the way for the annual Easter Egg Hunt, which saw local children searching for brightly coloured stones hidden in the grass—each one exchanged for a well-earned chocolate treat.
The En Plein Air Painting and Sketching Group also launched their season in April. While the Heath remains a favourite location, this year’s programme includes visits to Tesco Community Garden, Greys Farm, Lankester Hill in July, and further outings to King’s Ride Stables, the windmill at Great Chishill, and Paint the Market in September.
Indoor activities are also part of the Friends’ programme. In collaboration with the Royston Environmental Group, the Friends will be running children’s activities at Royston Museum on Saturday 14th June.
To round out the month, the museum will host a special event on the evening of Wednesday 18th June, where Jane Dottridge will present an engaging and informative talk on the Environment and History of Therfield Heath. All are welcome.
