Community News: The Charity Supporting the RAF Community

Since 1943, the Royal Air Forces Association has championed a simple belief – that no member of the RAF community should ever be left without the help that they need.

Not since WWII has the RAF been so constantly deployed on global operations and across the generations, the need for support is becoming ever more complex. Demand for our services is therefore increasing significantly.

Royston branch was formed in 1947 and has recently recruited new trustees to the Branch, and we are looking for more people to join the organisation.  You do not have to have served in the RAF to join us but have a desire to support our aims and objectives. For the sake of everyone who needs our help, we must continue to evolve and innovate to meet these new challenges and remain at the leading edge of service provision.

The Branch Trustees are redoubling their efforts to reach out to existing members and to encourage new members to join. If you are a member and haven’t heard from us, we probably don’t have your current details. Please contact membership@rafa.org.uk and update them. If you are interested in joining the association or volunteering, please view the website – www.rafa.org.uk

Battle of Britain day is 15th September. A commemorative service will be held at St John The Baptist Church, Melbourn Street, Royston SG8 7BP at 13:30hrs on Sunday 14th September 2025.  The existing branch standard was dedicated 33 years ago and is being replaced. As per Service tradition, the ‘old’ standard will be laid up and the ‘new’ standard will be dedicated at this service.  This is a significant and important event for the Branch and we welcome everyone to mark this event with us.

As well as the Royston branch’s fundraising welfare and remembrance work, we also arrange events for our members.

The Wings Appeal raises the vital funds needed to support serving and ex-RAF personnel and their families. ‘Wings Week’ is 8th-14th September where Royston Branch members and supporters are undertaking street, premises and static collections. Look out for us and please support if you can.
