Community News: Creative Royston 2025 Theme Announced!

Creative Royston are delighted to announce the theme for Royston Arts Festival 2025, which will take place from 20th-28th September: Then and Now.

With 2025 marking the 400th anniversary of the death of King James, whose associations with Royston are a rich part of our town’s history, it seemed only fitting for organisations to theme events with a link to King James. His link to the first recorded game of golf being played on Therfield Heath perhaps, his interest in demons and witchcraft (did Shakespeare write Macbeth with King James in mind?), the King James Bible and of course, the gunpowder plot.

Maybe you have a connection to one of several former Royal Palace buildings which still exist in Royston today? All of these things and much more can be interpreted with an artistic theme for Royston Arts Festival!

Of course, theming your event or activity is not essential, and the theme is open to interpretation. Everyone is welcome to create and host an event for the Festival. Art, drama, music, workshops, dance, photography, craft… if you are creative you are welcome to get involved!

You may, for example, want to focus on our changing and growing dynamic town or your own artistic styles that have adapted and grown. Or you may choose to simply focus on the “Now” and the art you are working on currently.

Anyone who wishes to plan or organise an event must submit their idea via the website: www.creativeroyston.org/organise-an-event

This allows you to submit full event details when they are ready – or simply to register your idea. If you are at the ideas stage, one of the committee will then be in touch to discuss what is needed from a compliance/insurance point of view.
