Community News.. Chatty Cafe Royston – Bringing the Community Together

Chatty Cafe Royston is thriving, having recently celebrated 18 months of friendly conversations and community connection.

Every Monday, The Jolly Postie in Royston opens its doors from 12noon to 1.30pm for the cafe’s Chatter & Natter table, offering a welcoming space for anyone looking for company. Whether visitors are new to the area, feeling lonely, or simply want a friendly chat, there’s no pressure, no booking, and no expectations – just real conversation over a hot or cold drink.

Part of the nationwide Chatter & Natter initiative, which has over 900 tables across the UK, the Royston table has quickly become a “regular date in the diary” for locals aged 18 to 80+. Founder Gwen explains: “It’s more than just a cuppa! People can pick and choose when to join us, depending on how they feel. It’s not about numbers, it’s about making a difference to those who are there.”

The cafe has fostered lasting connections, with members creating a WhatsApp group, meeting for coffee and lunch during the week, and even attending seaside outings together. Some have gained the confidence to try new activities, such as indoor bowls, inspired by friendships made at the table. Social events like group meals further add to the sense of community.

Chatty Cafe Royston meets every Monday at The Jolly Postie, Royston SG8 5AY, from 12noon to 1.30pm. Drop in anytime, grab a cuppa, and enjoy a chat – because sometimes, all it takes is one conversation to brighten a day.
