Curwens Solicitors Gallery and Libellule are bringing a burst of creative energy to Royston this June, with two engaging events that showcase local artists and support community initiatives. From traditional crafts to artistic displays, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Crafts Wall Exhibition with Judith Evans – Saturdays 14th, 21st & 28th June
For those with a passion for traditional craftsmanship, don’t miss the Crafts Wall Exhibition featuring Judith Evans, a skilled Hertfordshire-based basket maker. Judith’s journey into basketry began 16 years ago, but it was in 2017 that she truly immersed herself in the craft. Since then, she has honed her skills under the guidance of Cambridgeshire basketmaker Debbie Hall and further developed her expertise through a City and Guilds certification in Creative Basketry in 2019.
“My love for basketry began around 16 years ago,” Judith shares. “But it wasn’t until 2017 that I had the opportunity to immerse myself more fully in this fascinating craft. Learning with Debbie Hall opened my eyes to many willow weaving techniques, and my passion has only grown since then.”
Judith’s work is deeply rooted in sustainability, using only UK-grown, sustainably harvested materials. Alongside her beautiful handcrafted baskets, she also runs workshops for beginners, aiming to pass on her love and enthusiasm for this ancient craft. “I am a member of The Basketmakers Association and love sharing the joy of creating something by hand,” she adds.
