Community News: Curwens Art Gallery, Royston – A Creative Space for All

Most Saturdays, the reception area of Curwens Solicitors in Royston transforms into a welcoming art gallery, run by local creative Claire Fremann. Curwens generously provide the space free of charge, allowing Claire to host a small non-profit gallery that showcases the work of local artists – from complete beginners to seasoned professionals.

Claire’s aim is simple but powerful: to support creativity in the community and promote the positive impact it has on mental health and social connection. Since launching the gallery in April 2024, she has welcomed a wide range of artists and visitors. “Art belongs to all of us,” she says, “and this little gallery helps make that true in Royston.”

Claire’s efforts were recognised in March when she received an award from the Mayor for her contribution to the community. Since then, three different Mayors have visited the space – an encouraging sign of the gallery’s growing local impact.

Claire extends heartfelt thanks to the public, advertisers such as The Listing, the Royston Crow, the Royston Reporting page, local Facebook groups, Curwens staff, and the artists who’ve made the gallery a success.

The gallery is currently closed for the summer holidays and will reopen in September to coincide with the Royston Arts Festival. Going forward, it will open on most weekends and selected dates only.
