Back in July, BBC’s The One Show visited Royston to film a short piece about trumpet soloist Alison Balsom OBE.
As part of the segment, they filmed Alison rehearsing with Royston Town Band at the Heritage Hall in Royston Town Hall, which was kindly provided by Royston Town Council.
Charmian Flowerday, Chair of Royston Town Band said, “We were delighted to welcome Alison back to Royston to make music with us, bringing together both players with a lifetime of brass band experience and new players just beginning their musical journeys.
“We’re very proud of the amazing career that Alison has built and the small part our community band played in starting a career that has taken her around the world and to enormous acclaim.
“Music has such a powerful ability to bring people together. Brass bands like ours have always been at the heart of local communities, supporting events from village fetes and local parties to Remembrance Day and carols at Christmas.
“As the provision of music education disappears from our schools, groups like Royston Town Band are more important than ever in making sure young musicians get the opportunity to develop the skills that last a lifetime. You never know when the next Alison Balsom might emerge!”
Royston Town Band welcome everyone, from beginners to experienced players, and instruments can be provided, with both our main band (for experienced musicians) and our development band (for new young and not-so-young musicians) meeting to rehearse every week at our our own bandroom in Tannery Drift, Royston.
