Community News: A hundred vulnerable children had a great day out at Wimpole Hall…

A hundred vulnerable children had a great day out at Wimpole Hall earlier this month, thanks to volunteers and funding from a number of local Rotary clubs and supporters.

The annual event was backed by a national charity known as Kids Out, which provides “positive experiences and happy memories” for the most disadvantaged children. Rotarians from the clubs of Cambridge, South Cambridgeshire, Cambridge Sawston, Haverhill, Royston and Baldock all helped out on the day. Despite the forecast of rain, the weather improved and throughout the day the children were able to enjoy a selection of activities, including a visit to Home Farm, bouncy castles, face painting, kitemaking and flying, model train rides and numerous games. Fortunately, the ground was dry enough for all to sit and eat a picnic meal kindly donated and delivered by Royston’s Tesco Extra, plus an ice cream. Before leaving, each child received a paperback storybook, a gift Bows Books, of Royston. One of the organisers, Di Charles, of the Royston club, said: “It was a fun day for all of us, not just for the children. Rotary would like to thank all those who helped out, and we would also like to give special thanks to Haverhill Town Council for their generous sponsorship.“
