This month Royston Photographic Society turn their spotlight on photographer Phil Gravett.
Phil joined the society in 2012 and brought with him an enthusiasm for all things wildlife and nature. Since being with the society he has broadened his horizons and takes on a wide range of genrè ranging through sport to people. He is always at the forefront of new initiatives in photography, providing a lead and advice to others in our meetings. He also fills a variety of roles within the club and supports all our activities.
Looking at Phil’s photographs, his passion for travel and for Africa in particular comes across strongly. He has visited wildlife centres there many times, always gives an enlightening presentation at a club night on his return and has other trips planned. Some of his favourite results from these trips are attached. His foreign adventures do not stop with the heat of Africa. His picture of a polar bear and penguin show that his wanderings have stretched to both poles too. The Gentoo penguin, titled ‘Hey, look at me! I’m important’, is an all time favourite of his.
Phil’s drive for being part of the camera club comes from the encouragement he gets to improve his photography through exchanging ideas and experiences with other members. His talent in improving his photography has led to Phil gaining a prestigious CPAGB Award which is a photography distinction from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. In recent weeks he has also been shortlisted in the People round of Amateur Photographer of the Year with Batwa Chiefs Wife – also attached.
Over our last few photographer profiles we have shown eye catching photographs taken on a members home patio and now in exotic locations. All opportunities and preferences are catered for within the society membership.
Details of the society, club nights and membership are available from Andrew Gillborn andrewgillborn@gmail.com
