The saving of The Three Tuns pub, by Guilden Morden Community Pub Ltd, stands as a powerful testament to local determination and collective action.
This historic, Grade II-listed building, which has served the South Cambridgeshire village for an estimated 300 years, faced closure in 2013 when the owner sold it to a property developer.
A dedicated local action group, the Three Tuns Community Group (TTCG), fought tirelessly to save the pub, successfully having it designated an Asset of Community Value and blocking a change-of-use application. The community then rallied, forming Guilden Morden Community Pub Ltd (GMCP) as a Community Benefit Society.
In 2018, GMCP successfully raised over £250,000 through a share offer, with over 310 investors, allowing them to purchase the pub for the community. Following extensive volunteer-led refurbishment, The Three Tuns triumphantly reopened in June 2019 as a community-owned free house.
Today, it offers fabulous food and drink alongside its vital role as a social centre for the community. Being more than just a traditional pub, it has played host to various village activities, including a regular Village Market, and has cemented its place at the heart of Guilden Morden life.
In early April 2026, the tenancy to run The Three Tuns will become available.
