Like many people, the Easter break and its fine weather saw me flinging open the windows, clearing cupboards and trying to sort the garden. Spring is the natural season for a reset, but what about your business or personal goals?
If your ambitious New Year’s resolutions have stalled, you may find that the problem is trying to do too much too quickly.
First, allow yourself to think big – dream a little. What would the best version of your work, your team, or even your daily routine look like? These ideas are important—they give you direction and energy.
Then, just like sorting an unruly garden or a cluttered room, bring things back down to earth. You don’t need to act on everything at once. Pick one or two areas that matter most right now and translate them into something practical. My vague intentions don’t survive long, but if I set myself clear, simple actions, then they do!
Next comes accountability – that tidy space stays tidy because of habits, not because of one-off efforts. Write your commitments down, put them in your diary and, if you can, share them with someone who will check in with you, and keep you honest.
Finally, be selective – you don’t have to clean everything at once. In fact, in my experience, trying to do so is the quickest way to give up! It’s best to choose less, and make sure you do each one properly.
Seeing that progress as each small thing gets done, really helps to create the space for you to move forward – mentally and physically.
So open the windows, choose one small thing to start today, and let a bit of spring sunshine into your business!
