The Listing recently caught up with Steven Mason, Membership Advisor for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).
The Listing have been members of the FSB for 19 years, and as well as access to training, they’ve found the online resources, legal guidance and business hub to be a vital source of information for growing and maintaining a successful business. Steven covers Royston and the surrounding area.
What brings you to working with the FSB?
I have over 30 years commercial experience, predominantly working for my father’s business which included managing a convenience store with sub post office in Essex and assisting in the running of two petrol stations.
I had a strong interest in Financial Markets and at the age of 26 I started a new career as a Futures & Options Broker in the West End of London, working as a Broker trading all major asset classes such as FX, Precious & Base Metals, Commodities and Equities.
Upon finishing a 21-year long career as a Broker, I found myself wanting to utilise 30 years’ worth of commercial business experience and go out and help small business owners and I can do this by introducing them to the benefits of FSB membership.
What does the FSB do?
The FSB, as a not-for-profit organisation, has been supporting the self-employed and small business owners for over 50 years. They are member-led, politically neutral, and fully committed to helping smaller businesses thrive and are the UK’s leading membership organisation and advocate for Small Business.
FSB was formed to be the voice of our members and the small business and self-employed community across the UK, and today this remains at the core of what the FSB does.
FSB membership provides access to a wide range of practical tools and resources to help business owners become more efficient, secure, and profitable — including:
24/7 Legal Advice Line, Employment Protection, Legal & Business Hub, Tax Investigation Protection, Health & Safety Guidance, Debt Recovery, Networking Events, Training Courses and so much more.
How can a Business Owner find out more about the FSB?
They can contact me directly and I would be delighted to send some further information and also discuss the challenges that they are facing in business and how I and FSB can help. I also attend the Nutwood Networking Group on the first Friday of the month at The Woodman Inn, Nuthampstead.
I am also pleased to provide a 10% Discount Code for new members who join FSB by 31st Jan 2026 – Please email / phone to request Discount Code!
