Caro Group, based in Royston, is the first and only company in the UK to pass Official certification Approval to British Standard for the Environment Agency’s flood protection scheme across the UK.
With weather systems becoming ever more extreme, flood barriers are needed to protect people, property, and infrastructure from the damaging effects of floods by creating a physical barrier that prevents or reduces water from entering buildings or inundating land. They safeguard public safety, prevent economic losses from property damage and business interruption, and protect critical infrastructure like industrial facilities and power plants.
The Environment Agency stipulate that all products in the framework need to be certified, to ensure that only the products specified for projects are tested and proven to work.
Caro’s demountable barriers are custom-made at its production facility, in Kent. Dave Lowe, Group Managing Director based in Royston, explains, “We are proud to have been the first company in the UK to achieve third-party accreditation and approval to BS 851188-1:2019+A1:2021 for testing demountable flood defence barriers. We are setting a new benchmark for our industry by being the first company to be Approved to British Standard for temporary flood resistance. Caro Group is a leader – we are the first and only tested and Third Party Approved company able to sell into the Environment Agency’s PFR framework for demountable barriers and we are a carbon-negative UK manufacturer. Our products are engineered for performance, built for the planet.”
All products now come with full traceability of all components and are certified and tested to the highest standard within the industry, the British Standard.
