Royston Veterinary Centre – Monthly Update – Protect Your Pets – Grass Season is here!

Grass Seed Season is here. Protect your Pets.

As summer approaches, grass seeds become a hidden danger for dogs and cats. These tiny, dart-shaped seeds can easily become lodged in your pet’s paws, ears, eyes, nose, and even under the skin. Once embedded, they can cause pain, infection, swelling, and in some cases, require surgical removal.

Pets with long fur or floppy ears are especially at risk. After walks in grassy areas, always check your pet thoroughly, especially between toes, around ears, and under their belly. Keep the fur trimmed around high-risk areas to help prevent seeds from latching on.

Signs to watch for include persistent licking, shaking the head, limping, swelling, or sudden discomfort. A simple post-walk check could save your pet from serious discomfort.

At Royston Veterinary Centre, the team believes that every pet deserves to feel safe, supported, and understood. Recognising the signs of anxiety early can make a real difference to a pet’s overall health and wellbeing.

The veterinary team is trained to minimise stress during visits and offers a calm, compassionate approach tailored to each individual animal. They also provide ongoing guidance on calming techniques, recommended products, and behavioural support to help manage anxiety at home.

If a pet is showing signs of distress, Royston Veterinary Centre encourages owners not to wait. Booking a consultation can be the first step toward a happier, more relaxed life for their furry friend, because a relaxed pet is a healthy pet.
