Be Sustainable in April…

At last the days are warming up and wild flowers are popping all around us. Spring has definitely sprung! Here are some events to think about:

Fashion Revolution Week, Tuesday 22nd to Sunday 27th April 2025: Each year in April, encourages us to ask our favourite brands, “Who made my clothes?” Doing this helps to demand a fairer, more transparent industry, helping to ensure that fashion brands listen and help create the permanent change to improve the lives of textile workers worldwide.

Stop Food Waste Day, Wednesday 30th April 2025: is an environmental awareness day that seeks to address this hot potato. Food waste is an expensive issue and also has a significant environmental impact. It’s estimated that 32% of all food purchased per year in the UK is not eaten and that half of the water used to produce this food also goes to waste. Food waste releases methane gas, which accelerates climate change if not disposed of properly. Take the pledge on social media to reduce your food waste #StopFoodWasteDay

The Big River Watch Friday 25th April to Thursday 1st May 2025: organised by The Rivers Trust, invites you to participate in a citizen science activity twice a year (April and September) to help build a picture of river health across the UK and Ireland. Whatever your connection with our waterways, you can download the app, head to your nearest river and complete the 15 minute survey. This will help The Rivers Trust identify and locate any problems in the river network.

Finally, in a fabulous piece of unexpected news, Royston Environmental Group has won the new Royston Town Council Green Award for 2025! It’s wonderful to be recognised for the work we do in our community.

Thank you everyone, and have an enjoyable Easter!
