Royston Museum – September Update…

What a summer! We have been time travelling throughout history stopping off in a different era each week, including Romans, Medieval and the 20th Century.

Time travellers who joined us on our adventures each earnt a special badge on which they could collect a different ribbon for every week. Well done to those who earnt all six ribbons!

As we now enter September, we’re looking forward to both Heritage Open Days and Royston Arts Festival.

• For Heritage Open Days (Saturday 6th to Sunday 15th September), get up close to real objects from our past and make fun crafts to take home on Saturdays and Sundays. Plus, join Curator Sophie on Thursday 12th September at 1pm for a 30-minute pop-up talk all about our town’s fascinating history.

• For Royston Arts Festival, we have so much happening, from writing and stop motion animation workshops to drop in kids crafts and special activities for under 5s. Head to our website or the Arts Festival programme to find out more.

• We’re also looking forward to welcoming Dr Alexander Courtney to the Museum on Thursday 10th October for a fascinating talk on King James VI&I and Royston. Tickets can be purchased via our website.

Recently, we received funding from Museum Development South East to provide training to our staff and volunteers later this year. The training will help us develop our skills and knowledge when working with the Museum’s costume collection.

Finally, watch out for our new temporary exhibition celebrating the 400th anniversary of the first game of golf played in England, here on Therfield Heath! Coming later this month.

Open Thursday to Sunday, 10am-4pm, each week
