Icknield Walk First School – Enjoy a special visit from the Freshwater Theatre Company…
Pupils at Icknield Walk First School recently enjoyed a special visit from the Freshwater Theatre Company. They are one of the largest theatre-in-education companies in the UK and they provided our Year 1 pupils with a high quality drama workshop that linked with their topic based on ‘Toys’. Pupils were able to explore toys from the past and compare them with modern toys. They invented their own imaginary toy and then described their toy and its features with their peers. One of our year 1 teachers, Mrs. Woollison said, “The workshop really helped the children explore old toys and gave them great inspiration when it came to creating their non-fiction books on toys from the past”.
Our Year 2 pupils also enjoyed a drama workshop from local company Perform for Schools. The children immersed themselves in an imaginative adventure, stepping back through history exploring ‘The Sword in the Stone’ through a creative drama workshop. It stimulated their interests and sparked their imagination to write their own fairy stories. They really enjoyed acting out their adventures, it was a fantastic experience.
