Citizens Advice is looking for a volunteer to join the team as Community Information Assistant in South Cambridgeshire, supporting outreach across Melbourn, Bassingbourn and Meldreth.
You’ll also attend regular sessions at the Royston office to meet the wider team and keep skills and knowledge up to date.
You’ll be one of the first friendly faces people meet, helping them take the next step towards the right support. You’ll help people understand their options, access services, and feel supported during difficult moments.
What the role involves – In local community settings you will:
- Welcome people warmly and help them feel at ease
- Listen without judgement and explore what support they need
- Provide clear, practical information on common issues
- Recognise when specialist advice is needed and refer into our advice service
- Work alongside advisers and volunteers to support clients in the community
- Manage expectations so people understand what Citizens Advice can (and cannot) help with
- Know when to ask for support
You won’t give detailed advice. Instead, you’ll share reliable information and signpost people to the right service.
Training and support included.
We provide full training, guidance on boundaries, and ongoing support, helping you build confidence, communication skills and local knowledge.
Why volunteer?
You’ll make a real difference locally, learn new skills, meet new people, and give something back in a practical, meaningful way.
