The year 2025 will hopefully be a time of exciting developments at Royston Cave.
As you read this, reports and recommendations are being made by Historic England, detailing the best way forward to help preserve the cave and its carvings. Once these have been finalised, the process of applying for a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant can begin in earnest. We are hopeful in its success, which will enable us to make improvements to the infrastructure of the cave. This will not only preserve the cave for future years but will also help us improve the visitor experience.
This year is also the 400th anniversary of the death of King James I, who was a frequent resident in Royston, so we shall be exploring more about his time spent here, and whether they may be any connection between him and the cave!
If you find the cave interesting, love history and enjoy meeting likeminded people, then why not apply to be a guide.
